 Fast-Moving Consumer Goods

An important part of the Indian economy, the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) segment accounts for the country's fourth-largest industry. There are several subsectors within the industry, including healthcare, home and personal care, and food and beverage.

These subsectors collectively account for 31 percent of the industry's total revenue, 50 percent of the industry's revenue, and 19 percent of its revenue, respectively.

The food and consumer packaged goods industry experienced a growth of 7.1 percent between the months of October 2020 and December 2020. This increase was driven by rural areas, health and hygiene products, and food items respectively.

According to the most recent estimates, e-commerce will be responsible for an amount equal to $5 billion in sales of FMCG products by the year 2022. These results were consistent with what analysts had anticipated.

By the year 2020, it is anticipated that Indian consumers will have spent a total of approximately Rs. 22,500 crores, which is equivalent to $3.19 billion in US currency, when shopping for groceries online. This would represent a 76 percent increase if we were to look at the data from the previous year. It is anticipated that the GMV of India's online grocery business will increase by 18 times over the course of the following five years, reaching a total of US $37 billion by the end of FY25.

For a grand total of 39 Mega Food Parks, there are currently projects in various stages of development, including 22 that are operational, 15 that are actively under construction, and two that are awaiting final approval.

Dunzo, Flipkart, Grofers, and BigBasket are just some of the online retailers that have partnered with FMCG companies in order to deliver goods directly to people's homes or places of business in order to aid in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Other online retailers that have joined the fight include Grofers, BigBasket, and Grofers.

In today's market, there are many manufacturers of consumer-packaged goods who place an emphasis on energy efficiency in order to better serve the communities in which they are located and to realise cost reductions over the course of their businesses' lifetimes.

Since March 2019, when it consisted of just a hair more than 52,000 villages, Dabur India's rural network has increased by more than 44,000 additional villages, bringing the total number of villages that are being serviced to more than 90,000. By the years 2020 and 2021, it is anticipated that as many as 60,000 new villages will have been established. A total of $17.8 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) was funnelled into the sector between April 2000 and September 2020.

In January 2021, an effort was made by Udaan to raise 280 million US dollars (approximately 2,048 crore Indian rupees) from existing investors and potential new investors, such as Lightspeed Venture Partners and Tencent, was successful.

Udaan has raked in a grand total of $1.15 billion worth of revenue up until this very moment. According to those with knowledge of the matter, the business was awarded more than $3 billion in return for the asset, despite the fact that the corporation has not disclosed the amount of money it spent on the transaction.

The expansion of the consumer market is being driven in large part by higher levels of awareness and accessibility, as well as a wealthier standard of living. The Union Budget 2019-20 placed a significant emphasis on agriculture, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

It was anticipated that this would benefit India's fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry (FMCG). As a result of this initiative taken by the government, the number of people living in rural areas who require assistance from the government will decrease. This is especially beneficial to those people living in rural areas.
